He grew up in the shadow of a military installation. He served in Vietnam. He served in the part of the Army that serves others, providing commanders with the skilled, knowledgeable, and motivated people needed to accomplish missions and ensuring the well-being and care of those soldiers. He dedicated his life to the United State Army and serving the American people.

And many don't even know his name.

In I'm Tim Maude and I'm a Soldier, author Stephen Bower delves into the life of Lieutenant General Timothy J. Maude, the most senior U.S. Army officer killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks.

"Tim's life and legacy and his service within the U.S. Army Adjutant General's Corp should be preserved," Bower said. "Lieutenant General Maude was one of the finest examples of military leadership and professionalism in recent memory, and he should be recognized."

As a staff historian for the U.S. Army Solider Support Institute dedicated to teaching, writing, and preserving military history and a working associate of Lieutenant General Maude, Bower was inspired to share Maude's story of a solider professionally committed to supporting other soldiers.

"Tim Maude was a member of the U.S. Army Adjutant General Corps, a branch of the Army that prides itself on taking care of other soldiers," Bower said. "His story is part of a larger narrative that underscores the enduring truth that meeting mission depends upon all parts of whole working together towards a common objective. This story deserves to be told."
