In June of 2010, "Mother Jones" published an article online about the death of the short story. Distraught by the disappearance of this unique form of literary expression, author K.R. Bernard decided to take matters into his own hands.

In his book "Shattered Worlds," K.R. Bernard provides readers with a collection of thrilling, science-fiction short stories. The "new" old trend in literature, these stories are quick for the busy reader, but not short of action or plot.

"Shattered Worlds" contains ten action-packed tales all drawn from the author's own dreams and nightmares.

"My original stories are what dreams and nightmares are made of, coming from my heart and soul," Bernard said. "They have unique twists and turns that you won't see coming."

In addition to the original plots and characters featured in each story, the book also discusses themes such as justice, poverty and heroism. By portraying a woman as the heroine in every story, Bernard speaks to the importance of equality and gives hope to readers who are searching for meaning in literature.
