Seattle attorney Christopher M. Davis has spent more than 20 years working to help all sorts of accident victims better understand their legal rights through the Washington Accident Books, a series of free legal guides designed to educate people about personal injury law. Now, Mr. Davis is adding yet another book to the lineup that aims to demystify the personal injury legal process for motorcyclists.

In "Road To Justice: The Essential Guide to Motorcycle Accident Claims in Washington," Mr. Davis outlines the many pitfalls that motorcycle drivers and their passengers experience after an accident. He covers Washington's motorcycle laws and the serious injuries that typically result from motorcycle crashes, and explains the predatory nature of insurance adjusters who attempt to deny riders' injury claims. The book also contains valuable information about motorcyclists' legal rights and the steps they can take to protect themselves both before and after a tragic collision.

"The bottom line is that motorcyclists are vulnerable and at much higher risk than the average driver of being seriously hurt in a collision," he says. "And when someone else's negligence causes a collision, the insurance companies employ scorched-earth tactics to take advantage of injured motorcyclists and their families."

Mr. Davis explains that because motorcyclists are not legally required to carry any sort of insurance policy in Washington state, riders may be tempted to save money by skipping out on insurance coverage that would otherwise pay for medical bills after a collision. And since serious and fatal crash rates are up to 35 times higher for motorcyclists than traditional motor vehicles, victims' damages are often extremely high.

"Washington is one of the only states in the northwest that does not legally require motorcyclists to carry an insurance policy, and our roads are packed with thousands of cars and trucks that carry little to no liability insurance of their own," he adds. "If a motorcyclist is hurt in a crash and does not have any sort of bodily injury coverage under their own insurance policy, there is a high likelihood that they will have little to no legal recourse to pay for medical bills, lost wages, and other damages."

Mr. Davis hopes that his latest book will help accident victims better understand the risks of not purchasing insurance coverage, as well as how to recognize the deceitful settlement tactics typically employed by the insurance companies.
