Sa' Mara Psalms Releases New Book

Writing in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and the pain of loving a man who never made her feel that love in return helped a 20-year-old girl deal with the emotional upheaval present in her world. In a new book, Sa' Mara Psalms shares her poetic words - torn right from a diary she kept from September 2001 to December 2002. She notes that writing was her healing mechanism, mentor, counselor, shoulder to lie on and communication path straight into God's ears.

"The Diaries of Sa' Mara Psalms Volume 1: Tears, Honey, Hip-Hop & Passion" includes more than 50 poems inspired by God, poetic stories, lyrics and uplifting words. Early poems such as "I Never" and "Eternity" show the excitement and passion of the early stages of love. "The pain after dancing in September" reveals the hope that love will return: "Like the moon, we will go through a cycle to return where we started; in each others' arms." "Missing LOVE" shares a longing for love lost: "I stand, and reality greets me, and your presence and smell are not standing with me." Even as she mourns for her lost love, the writer finds comfort in God, such as the poem "I'm crying out (A prayer poem to GOD.) She writes, "Oh Father I'm crying out: thank you, thank you, thank you. You see my tears."

Author Sa' Mara Psalms has been drawn to the arts since she was very young, from writing to drawing, painting, writing lyrics and designing fashion. The Houston-born artist was in her school talent show at age 10, entered art shows, played clarinet in middle school band and sang in her high school's gospel choir. She's been writing what she calls healing poetry for more than 10 years, recovering from wounds of love. Psalms plans to share writing from other diaries as well.
