"The Problem of God" (published by Xlibris UK) was born out of author S.H. Smith's desire to encourage believers to think more deeply about their faith. It is a book that explores the philosophy of religion with special reference to Christian doctrine.

"The Problem of God" presents its discussions in two sections. The first is an introduction to the standard theistic arguments relating to philosophical enquiries into the existence of God. In the second section, Smith examines - assuming God's existence - God's traditional attributes. It presents enquiries with regards to God's role as the creator, his omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence.

Smith has noted how so many atrocities are committed by extremists who are "certain" that they are right. "The Problem of God" is a book intended to instruct people about their faith. "In discussing these philosophical issues," he says, "I hope to defuse the 'terrible certainties' of religious faith which leads to the world's bigotries and their consequences."
