Giving readers a look into how society can build or break an individual based on clashing beliefs and ideologies, the new novel by author Ruth Anthony-Obi, "The Girl that Ran" (published by AuthorHouse), shows how seemingly different people can come together through similar experiences.

Dalu and Simdi are, at first glance, complete opposites. Dalu is the recluse of the village Umi; Simdi is an outgoing girl with a shadowy past. When Dalu finds Simdi lying wounded in the streets of Umi, he rescues her and tends to her injuries. The pair comes to know one another and soon Dalu's hardened façade begins to crack due to Simdi's influence.

Despite Simdi's kindness, Dalu cannot help but question if she is a blessing or if she is cursed to exist in the prison of his memories once she has gone away.

"The Girl that Ran" is Anthony-Obi's commentary on society at large, bringing together themes of honor, religion, discrimination, drama, horror and, most of all, romance to inspire acceptance and empathy in readers' lives.

"The book itself is centrally based on society," Anthony-Obi says. "It educates the reader on how they can exist in society without being a zombie to it. Also, it allows room for a person to move past expectations and make their own destiny."
