Four wounded souls are thrown together as they each struggle through fear and bitterness to find love in Robert Stirling's new novel, "Second Chances" (published by AuthorHouse).

Rebecca Abbott is a caregiver at a retirement village who is still haunted by the trauma of her past, one that has left her unwilling to trust men and struggling to be happy. A chance encounter brings Rebecca into contact with David Webster, a man she knew in college. Although they are drawn to each other, Rebecca's reticence with men and David's newly established status as a widower prevent them from acting on their attraction.

Meanwhile, a runaway teenage boy named Jeremy Baker finds refuge on the Webster's family farm, an event that Irene Hanson, the local embittered gossip, feels determined to investigate, no matter the consequences.

Stirling hopes to encourage readers who struggle with feelings of doubt and fear by showing the power of faith and family. With support of friends and family and by exercising their faith, Stirling's cast of characters eventually conquer the feelings they have oppressing them, allowing love to enter their hearts.

"Today's society has so much that is negative, even discouraging," Stirling says. "Faith and love can motivate all of us to embrace the positive."
