Richard C. Kirkland Releases 'Wide Place in the Road'

In "Wide Place In The Road: A Great Generation Love Story" (published by AuthorHouse), author Richard C. Kirkland's new novel, readers are taken into a heartwarming love story about Jessie Rascoa and a group of teenagers reaching for maturity and love in a small mountain community during the Great Depression.

"The book is a great generation love story," says Kirkland. "It is a historical story from out of the past that hasn't been written yet."

The story is based loosely on Kirkland's youth. He takes readers through what life was like during the Great Depression in a small mountain community. He also takes them through his experiences during World War II, and reveals how these experiences are being lost with the passing of his generation.

About the Author
Richard C. Kirkland was studying art before World War II. Once the war began he found himself in the Pacific as a fighter pilot. He then served as the only helicopter rescue pilot at the 8055 MASH in the Korean War. After his military service Kirkland wrote and published numerous magazine articles, short stories and five books about his experiences. At age 89, Kirkland is very active, speaks regularly and has appeared on many TV and radio shows, including both the American and Canadian History channels, Fox News and others. Throughout his time in the service he continued his love of painting. His gallery contains numerous paintings, sculpture and memorabilia. It can be seen at richardckirkland.com. Kirkland and his wife, Maria, have nine children, 17 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
