NAPLES, Fla. (PRWEB) July 13, 2015

What would inspire a man to walk across the country twice?

In 2004, at the age of 66, Phillip L. Woods decided to walk across the United States from east to west. He wanted to see the country not as politicians and lobbyists were formulating it, but see it as a land of individuals who had their own values and opinions.

In 2010, Woods made a second trek across the country, this time from north to south.

"I wanted to get people involved in running their own democracy," Woods said. "Not just sitting and waiting for someone else to take care of the problems they saw."

In his memoir, "Miles from Home: The Journey of a Lifetime," Woods recounts his cross-country treks, as well as key events that occurred throughout his life, including his family's personal struggle with alcoholism, his rural upbringing and his successes and failures involved with creating his own insurance business, all of which inspired Woods to start walking.

"My intent is to record my history, revealing the meager quality of life I experienced in my youth, which is in direct contrast to the gifted senior years I have been able to achieve," Woods said.

Woods hopes his memoir and can-do attitude will inspire readers in pursuit of the American Dream to keep moving.
