UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - The author Pat Willene's sister died at the age of 49 from colon cancer. The author wanted to show their relationship as simple "heroes" in their survival from childhood violence, to becoming viable, intelligent women despite their background.

"Celebration(s)" (published by AuthorHouse) is the story of two sisters who grew up with a violent, alcoholic father, who abused them physically, sexually and philosophically. Somehow, however, they were able to survive his sick ways and become meaningful women in life. It is the story of survival and to show that domestic violence existed as much back in the 1940's as it does now.

It is the story of common people, not movie stars or political families. It demonstrates how people, now perhaps in their 60's or 70's may have also lived the same kind of life but were too embarrassed to reveal it.
