WADSWORTH, Ohio

"I thought his story should be told," author Virgil D. Mochel says about their Border Collie. Lovable, adorable, and all other good attributes one can use to describe a furry friend can be applicable to the star of this tale, a collie better known as "A Friendly King" (published by Xlibris).

King was a Border Collie that Mochel and his family got from a dog pound. Nice and loving as he was, King was instantly considered a member of the family. Not long after, he became a well-known dog in the neighborhood. With his routines, such as sleeping in his master's son's school classroom, detailed in the book, readers will come to understand how a four-legged pal earned more friends than his owners did in that community.

Good natured and smart dog as King was, his story becomes a testament to the joy one faithful and friendly pet can bring to a household, and sometimes, an entire community. Reinforced by vivid illustrations that show King's antics, this delightful read makes "A Friendly King" dear to readers, young and old.

About the Author
Virgil D. Mochel was born in 1930 and reared on a farm near South Bend, Ind. during the Great Depression and World War II, both of which had tremendous influences on his life. In 1972, Mochel, his wife Marian, and their three children moved to a small farm where he still enjoys gardening, tending a small apple orchard, and raising beef cattle. He and his wife have eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Upon earning a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of Illinois, Mochel's professional career involved molecular structure research and process development. He has published many papers in technical journals, but his real love of writing led him to write hundreds of humorous skits during a 35-year period for an annual "Sweetheart" dinner at his church. He has also written, produced, and directed 20 full-length Christmas plays for his church. Some highlights of his life have been enjoying his family, playing a sousaphone in the Purdue All-American Band, entertaining various groups with his 105 year-old tuba, and singing bass in a barbershop quartet and in the church choir.
