Eliezer, a farmer and traveling merchant in ancient Galilee, is a devout Pharisee and widower. He must care for his two children, Miriam and Yaaqov, in a time when his country is being changed by a man named Jesus. As neighbors of the mysterious man, Eliezer, his family and their friends will face trials and tribulations that will make them question the path of their lives and the role God plays in them.

"Uprooting the Kingdom: A Novel" (published by WestBow Press) is the first novel by Bible scholar Thomas Winn. Through elements of faith, love, community, conflict, justice, hope and personal growth, Winn hopes readers will glean a better understanding of daily life in the time of Jesus.

As historical fiction, "Uprooting the Kingdom: A Novel" seeks to show people that even though first-century culture is different from current times, human nature remains the same.

"People in today's society also face various types of crisis and struggles with their faith," Winn says. "It isn't easy for us to let go of our own ideas and to follow the path that God puts in front of us."
