Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, THE COLOR PURPLE, will be published in a new tie-in edition featuring the show artwork for the upcoming Broadway musical revival. The special edition is being published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt/Mariner Books and will be available today, November 10, the day the new Broadway production begins previews.

THE COLOR PURPLE returns to Broadway this fall, with Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy winner JENNIFER HUDSON making her Broadway debut in the role of Shug Avery in what has already been called, "a match made in musical heaven" (Associated Press). Directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, the production also features London stage star CYNTHIA ERIVO as Celie, and DANIELLE BROOKS (Orange is the New Black) in the role of Sofia.

THE COLOR PURPLE begins preview performances tonight, November 10 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 West 45th street) and will officially open on Thursday, December 10.

John Doyle's critically acclaimed production opened in summer 2013 in London at the Menier Chocolate Factory. Based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize winning novel and the Warner Bros. / Amblin Entertainment motion picture, The Color Purple is adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize and Tony award winner Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Grammy award winners Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray.

THE COLOR PURPLE is an unforgettable story of enduring love and triumph over adversity. With a fresh, joyous score of jazz, ragtime, gospel and blues, this stirring family chronicle follows the inspirational Celie, as she journeys from childhood through joy and despair, anguish and hope to discover the power of love and life.

ALICE WALKER's beloved novel, The Color Purple, won the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction and the National Book Award in 1983 and was a New York Times bestseller. Ms. Walker is an internationally celebrated writer, poet, and activist whose books include seven novels, four collections of short stories, four children's books, and volumes of essays and poetry.
