There are many rewards to having good friends, according to webmd.com. These benefits include emotional support during stressful events, better immune system and improved self-esteem. In her new book, "The Importance of Christian Friendships" (published by Xlibris), Beth Gable Hicks underscores the necessity of friendships, particularly those that have Christ at the center of the relationship. She also describes how these Christian friendships are unique.

In today's society, the marriage rate is declining, the divorce rate is ascending and people are waiting longer to get married. These facts, coupled with the reality of a mobile society, magnify the need for Christian friends - friends who will see each other through good times and bad, friends who will stand by each other in an increasingly confusing world, and friends whose relationships with each other are sustained by the love of Christ.

"My hope is that, after reflecting on the scriptures cited in the book, the reader will feel strengthened and encouraged," author Hicks explains. "We can indeed obtain and sustain the Christian friendships that God promises us if we follow him."
