According to 2013 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 105 Americans die by suicide every day. Globally, over 800,000 people die due to suicide every year, according to the World Health Organization.

Author Jan Hayes hopes to save lives through her new self-improvement book, "Overcome your Depression: A Simple, Step-by-Step, Interactive, Self-Help Workbook" (published by Balboa Press AU).

Hayes, although not a medical practitioner, has studied psychology, and she also writes from her firsthand experience with recurring bouts of depression and its effects.

"I have cured myself using the methods given in my book," Hayes says.

Her book offers readers practical and simple steps to overcoming depression and anxiety through focusing on identifying and changing unwanted negative thought patterns.

Hayes presents readers with a variety of exercises, strategies and homework assignments to help depression sufferers become more aware of their "mind chatter" so they can change inappropriate thoughts as well as gain assertiveness, understand stress and anxiety, and improve their self-esteem.

"This simple, step-by-step workbook is easy to read and understand," Hayes says, "and it will assist the reader to overcome depression and become master of their own mind."
