OKLAHOMA CITY

Bob Funk, CEO and chairman of the board of Express Employment Professionals, has been featured in Marlene Chism's new book, "No-Drama Leadership: How Enlightened Leaders Transform Culture in the Workplace," which was released on May 5, 2015.

In "No-Drama Leadership," workplace consultant Marlene Chism provides the model today's corporate world needs: where leaders are best served by viewing communication as a strategy that promotes the brand, builds morale, and assists leaders to align teamwork with the mission and values of the organization. Chism introduces the mindset shifts and practical skills needed to build a culture of "enlightened leaders" who are aware, aligned and accountable.

According to Chism, "A prerequisite to making enlightened choices is to declare your values. Until you declare your values, there is an accountability gap and no real alignment."

Funk's account of how Express Employment Professionals began is used as an example of this statement. In the book, Funk recounts when misaligned values caused him to leave a company after 17 years and start Express. Funk said he would have worked at the company for the rest of his life, but there was a change in ownership and company values. The new owner's values clashed so much with Funk's that he made the decision to leave and start Express Employment Professionals. And, more than 30 years later, Express has grown into the largest franchised staffing company in North America.

"One of the most important things in business is to know where your values lie," said Funk about the book. "Occasionally, you must take a stand for what you believe in and set yourself apart from the crowd. That's how Express started 30 years ago-by being true to the values we believed in, including loyalty, honesty, fairness and building good relationships-and it's how we operate today."

"No Drama Leadership" is now available for purchase at bookstores and online at Amazon.com.
