Kenneth Frederick Stewart has written a lot of family history booklets. When he retired, he put his efforts to complete his fiction stories, one of which is "Batavia Shores" (published by Xlibris AU), the long-awaited sequel to "Devlin Pool."

This story follows the two Geraldton detectives - Barney Merrick and Zep Marcon - as, this time, they try to unravel the mysterious torture and murder of a used-car dealer. During their law enforcement activities, they encounter a gun running gang and a well-armed international drug operation.

Barney, being himself a talented football player in the local football league, is obliged to mentor a promising young Aboriginal footballer during an inter-tribal feud to ensure that his potential AFL career is not compromised.

'Batavia Shores' is a quirky, well-written volume and has an entertaining cast in an unusual regional setting. It potrays the continual struggle of law and order against a wide diversity of opponents.
