Rachel Caine, author of the New York Times, USA Today and #1 internationally bestselling Morganville Vampires novels, announced today that following a successful Kickstarter fundraiser, the planned six-episode web series is officially underway . Pre-production proceeds in partnership with Streamy award-winning producer and director, Blake Calhoun, and Loud Pictures, the makers of "Pink," "Continuum," and TheWB.com's "Exposed." Both Calhoun and Caine are based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas.

"We believed that the readers of this long-running series would want to help produce this web series, and they really delivered. We exceeded our fundraising goals through Kickstarter with over 800 backers from all over the world. The enthusiasm and excitement has been tremendous," said Caine.

The fifteen-book saga has huge global popularity, with translations in 20 languages, and is published in the US by Penguin Books/NAL. The first novel, "Glass Houses," was voted the most popular book among UK school children in 2013, ahead of smash media-fueled hits like "Twilight" and "Harry Potter."

Caine has finished the entire first season of scripts, and the project now moves to pre-production, with filming expected to commence by October. The team plans to release a preview trailer of the new series in December 2013, following on release of the last novel of the Morganville Vampires, "Daylighters," in November.

Bestselling YA author and actor Amber Benson ("Buffy," "Ghosts of Albion," "Chance") is attached to play the part of Amelie, the vampire founder of Morganville. Casting for additional parts is scheduled to begin soon.
