What does it mean when I hear thunder and see lightning? What causes hail? In the Bel the Weather Girl series from Millbrook Press, a division of Lerner Publishing Group, young readers learn from Bel as she explains how the weather works. Weather's not so scary once you understand it!

Emmy Award-winning meteorologist Belinda Jensen introduces kids to key weather phenomena-including hail, thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and more. Bel, a smart, spunky eight-year-old with a passion for the weather, eases weather fears for her cousin, Dylan, and her dog, Stormy, by showing them that weather's not so scary when you know how it works.

Whether children are fascinated or afraid of weather, young readers will love following along on each of Bel's adventures, as she and Dylan come up with playful new ways to understand some of weather's wildest wonders. With included learning activities, a glossary, and fun facts on weather, these titles will inspire young readers to learn more about the science behind weather.

About the Author
Belinda Jensen has been a meteorologist for 25 years and has been curious about the weather since she was an elementary school student. She is now the Chief Meteorologist for KARE 11 News, the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Belinda loves talking with young children and sharing her passion and enthusiasm for weather-related topics. After hundreds of appearances and school visits she's discovered that for some students, weather is an exciting mystery-but for others, it's a scary subject. Believing that knowledge is power, she developed a series of engaging and enlightening stories that reveal the science behind weather, and discovered, just as she hoped, that children aren't nearly as frightened when they are informed.
