Author Margo Viola presents a harrowing account of domestic abuse in her new book, "Cracked Shell Whole Yolk: A Memoir" (published by AuthorHouse).

"Cracked Shell Whole Yolk" depicts the terrible cycle of abuse many victims experience. Viola is no stranger to dysfunction, but when she meets the man of her dreams she thinks it's all behind her. Their relationship however, turns into a nightmare. In an effort to save herself and her toddler, Viola is given a new identity, and the two go into hiding.

Fourteen years later, her identity is revealed, and her abusive partner returns. Forced to choose between life and death, Viola chooses the only option she sees available and saves her own life.

Viola discusses more than just her abuse, as she also details her father's abuse of her mother and how she learned to interpret relationships. Through her story, she exposes some of the major flaws in the judicial system for domestic abuse victims seeking justice and protection.

Safe Horizon, the largest victims' services agency in the United States, reports that one in four women experience domestic abuse in their lifetimes. Viola's intent for her book is to reach out to these victims and remind them that there is always support to help break free from a life of violence.

She adds, "I also want the abusive individuals to realize that they have to answer to society and that a blind eye will no longer give them the power to hurt another."
