"Marcy's the real deal. It's no surprise to me that she knocked it out of the ballpark with her first book. When she talks about food, I listen....It's not so easy to find a new and unique take on the world of food and cooking, but if I can personally make but one suggestion to you, do yourself a favor and read Marcy's SNACKS....your kitchen will be all the better for it."

Guy Fieri from the Foreword of SNACKS

Adventures in Food, Aisle by Aisle

Foreword by
Guy Fieri

Insatiably curious food adventurer Marcy Smothers dishes out a delightful bounty of kitchen wisdom in her first book, SNACKS: Adventures in Food, Aisle by Aisle (HarperOne; May 2013; Trade Paperback Original). A compendium of irresistible bites of food insights, original recipes, cooking riddles, and her own personal "aha" kitchen moments, SNACKS is organized by "aisles" like the supermarket (Aisle 1: Produce. Aisle 6: Dressings, Marinades, Condiments, Spices. Aisle 11: Housewares, etc.), making it easy to navigate whether you're roaming for inspiration or in search of specific ingredients. With 50 recipes, dozens of tricks and tips, snack-sized factoids, and carts full of trivia, SNACKS reveals how to pronounce "endive" while enjoying a great recipe.

Delivered with lifelong passion for food and cooking and a great helping of humor, Smothers's quick wit, fun anecdotes, and impressive kitchen know-how make her SNACKS irresistible. For example, while some may allow people get away with referring to red meat sauce as Bolognese or remain silent while one pulls a leaf from the crown of a pineapple, Marcy Smothers cannot. She is keen to explain that "classic Bolognese sauce is not red, but a pale pink and uses tomato paste, not tomato sauce" and by the way, that is not how pineapple ripeness is determined.

Sophisticated foodies and home cooks alike will discover a fresh, fun way to think about food, cooking, and entertaining, from why strawberries like a hot bath, to what the plastic colored tabs on your bread reveal; from how shrimp are great for First Aid, to the critical difference between jelly and jam. Smothers serves up an impressive array of insight and an approach to shopping, food prep, and cooking that will have readers eagerly reaching for more SNACKS.
