Author and feminist cultural historian Lucia Chiavola Birnbaum releases the newest edition of her 2012 book, "The Future has an Ancient Heart: Legacy of Caring, Sharing, Healing, and Vision from the Primordial African Mediterranean to Occupy Everywhere" (published by iUniverse), to honor the memory of her late husband, Wally Birnbaum.

"My primary motivation in this revised edition is to explore more deeply the beliefs Wally and I held silently in between our words, particularly understanding our mutual African Mediterranean ancestors, notably our immediate grandparents and other elders," Birnbaum says.

"The Future has an Ancient Heart" compiles Birnbaum's extensive research in the fields of feminist theory, sociology and archaeology. Through her and Wally's work, she exemplifies the theory that all origins of life began in Africa and expounds on the notion of feminine divinity, which she refers to as "dark others."

Birnbaum applies the Paleolithic beliefs of sharing, caring, healing and awareness to current situations facing the modern world. She looks at the nonviolent Occupy Wall Street movement in September 2011 as well as other resistant movements against autocratic regimes that used violence to suppress the dark others.

Evocative and thought-provoking, "The Future has an Ancient Heart" focuses on non-Western ways of knowing and experiencing society. Birnbaum hopes this new, updated text will capture her late husband's influence on her writing and share their goal of enlightenment with all readers.
