Bibliomotion, books + media is thrilled to launch its Fall 2014 season with The Case of the Missing Cutlery: A Leadership Course for the Rising Star - released March 4, 2014. This is Kevin's second book published with Bibliomotion (The Hidden Agenda: A Proven Way to Win Business and Create a Following, a Wall Street Journal bestseller, was published in April 2012). Bibliomotion is proud to have the opportunity to work with Kevin again and to release his latest round of leadership insights to the world.

In an interview with Bibliomotion, Kevin shared his inspiration for book and what he hopes can be achieved in business through this story:

What inspired you to share the story of The Case of the Missing Cutlery?

KA: When I was coming up in the business, it was made clear to me leadership was about aloofness, fear, command and control. None of those things resonated with me. I followed a different path of empathy and engagement, and frankly was a bit of an outsider. The world has evolved, and 21st century leadership is connecting with the community of your people with emotional intelligence. My goal is to help aspiring leaders learn this powerful leadership method in practical and engaging terms. I want them to realize and be confident that they can be compelling and effective leaders by connecting with the hearts of their people and by being their own true selves.

You read this story on BBC Radio 4. What sort of response did that generate? Did you hear from any other young leaders with similar experiences?

KA: At ten years of age I sat every Sunday in front of my grandfather's shortwave radio listening to BBC World Service. It was utterly life affirming doing this, and I have heard from all sorts of people who felt a relief in the confidence of the instinct to lead through empathy and human connection over fear and intimidation. The folks from UK's leading food retailer rang after hearing the broadcast, and I had the honor to share the story with 400 of their top people at their annual conference. What a thrill!

Who do you hope reads your book? What do you want them to get from it?

KA: Anyone who is interested in understanding more about leading through emotional intelligence and new leaders hoping to tap into this powerfully effective leadership method.

What are you reading right now?

KA: Another wonderful volume from my "she-ro", Maya Angelou," I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings."

About the book:

Kevin Allen, author of the Wall Street Journal best-selling The Hidden Agenda: A Proven Way to Win Business and Create a Following, is back, with a fabulously entertaining (and true) tale of a newly minted leader made buoyant during The Case of the Missing Cutlery: A Leadership Course for the Rising Star. As a young manager at an airline catering facility, Kevin had to find out why silverware was disappearing at a rapid clip. The route to solving this mystery of The Case of the Missing Cutlery results in Kevin learning to rise to the occasion, to become a leader who inspires followers and is able to rely on their hard work and support. Kevin has called upon this story countless times during his long career in advertising, and has shared it broadly on the BBC's Radio 4 program, "Four Thought." [This edition contains content previously published as The Buoyant Leader.]

About Bibliomotion, books + media:

Bibliomotion is a book publishing house designed for the new publishing landscape. While many publishers work to retrofit old processes for new realities, Bibliomotion was founded by book-industry veterans who believe the best approach is a fresh one - one that focuses on empowering authors and serving readers above all else. Moving away from the top-down model that has dominated the publishing process for years, we give each member of the team - including the author - a seat at the table from the very beginning and in doing so, work side-by-side to launch and sell the best content possible, making it available in a variety of forms.
