During author Melody's childhood, she learned a lot about the world of drugs, drug overdoses, armed robberies and what prison was like from family members who got hooked into such illegal substances. What she learned prompted her to write "Killing Me Softly," (published by Xlibris) her first novel.

This book tells the story of a young man and his trials and tribulations after being locked down in federal penitentiaries for 17 years. Growing up on the mean streets of Newark, he was exposed to drugs at an early age from family members and friends in the street. Watching the street thugs was a great pastime for him. Little did he know, there would be twists and turns life would take him.

"This is a good crime story," Melody is proud to say. "We all know that prison facilities are full of young men and women who thought they could take the easy way out, but realized for themselves that it is not that simple. There are those who were convicted of minor drug offenses and received unjust sentences."

"Killing Me Softly" immerses readers into the life of one man's pain and suffering. Melody hopes that through her novel, it will help to open their young eyes and learn just what illegal drugs can do to a person and his life.
