EASTON, Pa.

When author Xebo's first grandchild was born, he wondered how to best leave his legacy to the next generation of his family. He wanted future generations to know about his home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He chose to write a novel emphasizing the true problems facing Congo, set in a fictional African country. His new book, "Kany Rising" (published by Trafford Publishing), is the finished product of this endeavor.

Set in the sub-Sahara African nation of Mezi, "Kany Rising" centers on the hunt for an exotic mineral called Kany, which is only found in Mezi. As powerful companies compete for Kany, Dr. Anthony O'Shea, a down-on-his-luck professor of exotic minerals, recruits Kano Wasiri, a scientist and nationalist leader, to extract the mineral and bring change to Mezi.

Anthony approaches Russian oligarchic member Nadov Kiriyan and the high-level British executive Lady Allistair to fund an initiative that will ensure complete and unrestricted control of Kany, but the money also fuels the radical political movement Kano is leading. As the movement is about to snatch the political control over Mezi, powerful competing business interests are scheming all over the world to achieve their own objectives. Will the country survive?

Throughout the story, Xebo highlights the real economic development problems that plague many countries in sub-Saharan Africa. He hopes to both entertain readers and educate them about the state of countries like Mezi.
