PORTLAND, Ore., July 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ Jack Estes was a decorated United States Marine who served during the bloodiest years of an unpopular war in Vietnam. He returned home at age 19 with PTSD and several months later his wife, the mother of his child, divorced him. He's been searching for a way to deal with the war ever since. He may have found another path back with the writing of his stirring debut novel, A Soldier's Son.

Jack, whose writings have been published in Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, and Los Angeles Times, penned his newest book as a follow-up to his critically-acclaimed memoir, A Field of Innocence, which recounts his experiences in Vietnam.

It is nearing 50 years that he last served during the bloodiest years of one of the nation's deadliest wars, but the memories remain fresh and they inspired his new book, launching July 15 th. He went back there more than 20 years after doing battle, tracking down a villager he credits with saving his life. He formed a group, Fallen Warriors Foundation, with his wife, to bring needed supplies to help the impoverished community heal the pain of war.

"Does going to war to solve conflict make sense anymore? Is the human cost worth what we achieve? We fight and die and pile up our youth like human debris, and does it make sense?"

These are just a few of the many memorable, insightful, and provocative lines uttered in this fast-pace drama that leaves readers feeling like they have been through a war.

A Soldier's Son, according to Kirkus Reviews, is "A complex novel of the past and future, fathers and sons, and war and redemption, and the devastating impact of large-scale violence on both the perpetrators and the victims."

This novel was adapted from his award-winning screenplay of the same name.

"My book shows the impact of war on soldiers, their families, and society and it's not a pretty picture," says Estes."My story shows what war is and how it repeats itself generationally."

A Soldier's Son is the powerful and redeeming story of a father's haunting memories of war, and his desperate attempt to save his son from the same fate.
