Holly Powell Brogan takes readers on a nostalgic journey through her own life as well as the lives of her children, parents and grandparents - critiquing society and the changes that have come to pass over time - in her new book, "The Confessions of a Bluebird: A Journey Back in Time" (published by WestBow Press).

With candor, Brogan depicts a unique childhood of adversity and sorrow. She explains how an early life of rude awakenings equipped her to deal with problems in life and the struggle of being a single mother. She hopes to provide a powerful example of victory over hardship.

"I want my readers to share a camaraderie with me in knowing that no problem is too tough to overcome, and that you must not ever give up when faced with adversity," Brogan says. "It is extremely difficult to step over the hurt, but you must do that in order to achieve victory. Never give up on asking the Lord for assistance - keep knocking, He will answer."

Covering four generations of her family's life, Brogan brings readers through many historical moments, though the main theme of the book is the importance of family, victory over sorrow and the importance of putting God in charge and leading a morally sound life.

An excerpt from "The Confessions of a Bluebird":

"Dad reminded me on several different occasions during my childhood that he had been in Tokyo Bay on the Day of Victory, and had been an eyewitness to history. 'He just wanted someone to know.'"
