NEWARK, N.J.

A love of research coupled with a deep fascination with the history and people of his hometown drove author Guy Sterling to revisit the past and identify "The Famous, the Familiar and the Forgotten" (published by Xlibris) people of one of America's oldest cities.

With details about their lives and addresses where they lived, this book lists 350 noteworthy people who have made Newark, N. J. their home during the city's almost 350-year history. Among those included are Thomas Edison, Stephen Crane, Aaron Burr, Sarah Vaughan, Philip Roth, Amiri Baraka, Jerome Kern, Shaquille O'Neal, Queen Latifah, Jackie Gleason, Rod Steiger, Frankie Valli, Joe Pesci, Eva Marie Saint, Wayne Shorter, Paul Simon, Whitney Houston and Jerry Lewis.

As to why he has taken on such undertaking of listing these famous names and their contributions to the American society, Sterling muses:

"I want readers to come away with a greater appreciation of the history and the people of Newark, NJ, a city with a roster of residents as impressive as just about any place in the United States."
