In the midst of what many would call a turbulent election season, the topic of immigration has been propelled to the forefront of political discourse. While the nature of immigration has fluctuated over the years, the upcoming election could drastically redefine the face of the American Dream as it was known during the height of US immigration in the early 20th century.

The United States has been called a nation of immigrants, often driven by opportunity and the chance at a better life. Author Gary Andersen explores the dynamics of a newly-formed immigrant community and its struggle to stay united when facing disaster in his new novel, "Code Name: Zeus."

"America is an amalgamation of a great variety of people," Andersen said. "My characters are strong believers in the traditional belief that America is the place to be free and succeed, and capitalism is the key to their success, regardless of whether or not they are immigrants."

After nearly 50 years in business, Andersen was inspired to write by his family's "melting pot" ancestry and the stories he heard in his youth about the tumultuous 1930s. Having had an active interest in both history and politics his entire life, Andersen provides a unique point-of-view on the origins of immigrant-driven capitalism in the early 20th century, as well as the current state of government in the United States.

"As a child of the Great Depression, I often listened to the stories of my relatives as they talked about their hardships and perseverance to survive during the 1930s," Andersen said. "They worked hard, even when the going got tough, to become part of the American experience."
