RICHMOND HILL, Ga.

According to an article written by Liza Joyce for http://www.georgiaconservancy.org, over 99 percent of all turtle nests found on Georgia beaches in recent years belong to the loggerhead turtle, the most abundant marine turtle species in U.S. waters. Despite their dominance on the Georgia coastline, the species is classified as endangered and is experiencing population decline due to pollution, development, mammalian nest predators and egg theft.

"Invasion at Kilkenny" (published by Xlibris) by author Franni Bacot tells the story of Hunter and Josh, two brothers who have just moved to an old plantation on a remote Georgia coast in a place called Kilkenny. They are both busy exploring their new home that is filled with mystery. There are no neighbors, no stores and there was really nothing, or so they thought.

Just as the boys began to become bored with their new surroundings, something happened. As they ran outside on a warm spring morning, they noticed turtles. There were big turtles everywhere. They had not seen any turtles before - not in the woods, not by the creek and certainly not in the house. But where did they all come from? Why were they there? What was going on?

According to Bacot, "Invasion at Kilkenny" is based in a real place where turtles truly invade every year. Through this picture book, she would like children to respect, love and learn about nature every chance they get. She also hopes to encourage them to get outside and explore their world and the creatures that share it.
