In "An Autobiography of Lessons Learned" (published by iUniverse), successful engineer Jagannath Giri looks back at how he fought to earn an education, keep his family together and live a moral life.

When Giri arrived in the United States from India, he had just $8 in his pocket. More importantly, his wife and children were at home thousands of miles away. Jagannath dedicates himself to working hard and bringing his family to him. He earns a doctoral degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, becoming the first man in the world to prove that composite material is lighter and stronger than the conventional aluminum used to make airplanes. "An Autobiography of Lessons Learned" tells the story of his nine-year journey to reunite with his family and bring them to the U.S.

Giri's message in the book is meant to inspire readers to work hard and stay on keep their sights on what is important. "Never take a defeat in life," he says. "Always work with a winning attitude. Never cheat or lie to anybody. Always remain morally sound and staying on the right path. God helps only those who help themselves."
