Dr. Anna Cohen Shares Strategies for Parenting in New Book
Dr. Anna Cohen has been working with children, young people and families for more than twenty years both in the public health system and the private sector. Throughout her many years of experience, she has nurtured a special interest in helping parents develop skills and confidence in raising their children. Her new book, Parenting Made Easy - The Middle Years: A Bag of Tricks Approach to Parenting the 6-12 Year Old, is one of the results of this interest and is aimed at helping parents of six to twelve-year-old children handle the delicate task of child-rearing with confidence and insight.
Children between the ages of six and twelve are going through a developmental stage. Throughout this time, the children often act in ways that are more challenging to parents. Parenting Made Easy - The Middle Years is designed to be a 'bag of tricks' or a guidebook to make the parenting role easier. It contains ideas that are powerful and appeal to children's pride, reason, logic and concern for others whilst teaching the expression of negative emotions in appropriate ways. When all the strategies in this book come together-describing and validating feelings, acknowledgement, effective instruction delivery, consequences, planned ignoring and noticing the positives-both parents and children will notice significant changes including a more peaceful home life and an improved sense of security, unconditional love and acceptance.
