David Jones marks his debut in the world of literature with, "Dark Sovereigns." Featuring a cast of indelibly characterized men and women and captivating prose, this new historical novel blends fact and fiction, reality and the speculative to offer a slice of life of Northumberland, England, in the early 19th century.

Set in 1816, the story is centered on the life and times of a young lad called Johnny Dark. Born in Northumberland, Johnny sets off to build his own life and future when he discovers his family's past. The young man has to muster courage and fortitude to chart his destiny in the midst of the harsh and ever-changing realities of the world. His journey takes an unexpected turn when he meets a gypsy girl named Margarita. From then on, an opportunity for a new life unfolds before Johnny's eyes.

Jones, the evocative and compelling narrator, conjures images of 19th century Northumberland, taking readers on a journey through breathtaking coastal regions, the lush inlands and finally to the stunning conclusion of Johnny's story.

Heralding the arrival of a talented new voice, "Dark Sovereigns" is all at once an extraordinary coming of age tale, a one of a kind adventure and a look into the ups and downs of life in England in the 1800s.
