RUTHERGLEN, Australia

Former Victorian beef cattle researcher, David Hamilton creates "Producing Beef Profitably from Pasture" (published by Xlibris AU) He wrote this book because it was clear that many farmers could profit from better use of research results.

In the book, Mr. Hamilton used research results from Australia and overseas to explain in simple language the principles that apply in producing beef from pasture in the southern Australian environment. The subjects covered include pasture management and use, various aspects of reproduction, calving season, milk production, animal breeding and selection. He also included a chapter on beef quality. He says that while farmers are often blamed for variable beef quality much of the problem develops after the cattle leave the farm.

Mr. Hamilton claims that beef production is generally only moderately profitable and as a result it is essential to use relatively simple methods of management that result in a product of good marketable standard.
