In "Letters from Pleasant View Lutheran Church: Christmas 1985 to Christmas 1999" (published by Trafford Publishing), author Dave Alan Nerdig takes readers across the snow-covered plains for a Christmas story that captures the warmth of a spirited rural congregation.

"After years of preaching old fashioned Christmas sermons I wanted people be able to hear the story of Christmas in a new way," explains Nerdig. "I created this fictional congregation so that its everyday people could live out the Christmas story in both humorous and touching ways that would make the story come alive for my readers."

Set on the rural plains of South Dakota, "Letters from Pleasant View Lutheran Church" reaches across 15 Christmases to tell the story of the Pleasant View Lutheran Church congregation and its new pastor. Filled with warmth, humor and a little bite, these stories reveal the humanity of the church members, who often find themselves in sticky situations but nevertheless strive to do God's good work.

Nerdig crafts familiar characters that are both flawed and blessed. He hopes readers will find their struggles real and relatable.

"In the end we can live together with grace and forgiveness and find meaningful relationships that add depth and beauty to our lives," Nerdig says. "I hope readers find it easier to laugh at themselves and recognize how God has blessed us with the people who surround us."
