Author Denise L. Baker looks back on growing up with a blues legend in her unique new memoir, "Living in the House of Blues: Behind The Doors Of A House Filled With The Blues" (published by Trafford Publishing).

Baker takes readers back in time as she reminisces about growing up the daughter of legendary blues artist Lonnie Brooks. "Living in the House of Blues" gives readers insight into Brooks' career, Baker's experiences as one of nine children, how he raised and taught them how to be respectful, productive citizens, how he is at home as a father and friend, to his induction into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2010.

Writing openly and honestly about the challenges her family faced - discrimination and poverty, among others - Baker sets out to chronicle both the good times and the bad. She looks back on Brooks' early career, including his first trip to perform overseas. The book also shares details of Brooks' appearances on television programs like "Hee Haw" and "Soul Train."

An excerpt from "Living in the House of Blues":

"One of my father's favorite bluesmen puts it best: Trouble in my mind, when I'm a little blue, Bet I won't be blue always, Cause the sun is gonna shine, On, on my doorstep, Some lowdown, lonesome mother humpin day."
