"Development in Unity Volume One" (published by Xlibris UK) is a recently released compilation of research works, published articles, speeches and seminar presentations, addresses and radio broadcasts written by Daasebre Professor (Emeritus) Oti Boateng over the past 40 years to inspire change and development based on unity of purpose and cultural governance.

In these articles, the author, a distinguished statistician, a university don, a UN Commissioner, a Vice-Chancellor of the World Academy of letters and a traditional ruler, seeks to blend scholarship and culture as mutually-inclusive prerequisites to draw lessons and models in addressing pertinent development challenges that face humankind particularly in Africa and the developing world.

The book espouses the concept of community development from a cultural perspective and inspires a new model of community development from a root-based approach which represents a major paradigm shift from the orthodox top-down approach to development. This community development model would fundamentally change the current global approach and inspire a new debate on community development, which would make it a much- sought-after-blueprint for community development practitioners and students of development across the world.

The theme of the book, "Development in Unity," is derived from the mission of the Akwantukese Festival of the Chiefs and people of New Juaben which is called, "Development in Unity for the Welfare of the People." The book has been expertly dovetailed into the Akwantukese Festival, a modern post-independence Festival of Ghana, pioneered by the author as Omanhene, to commemorate the historical exodus of the Ashantis who migrated in the 1870s to form the New Juaben State in the Eastern Region of Ghana. This dynamic association of the book with the Akwantukese Festival, which has the basic goal to promote the socio-economic development of the people and reinforce the ancestral unity between the citizens of Asante and New Juaben, brings a major event of Asante history into contemporary focus.

Every section of the book is filled with life-tested and leadership lessons to inspire a new development order and intellectual assertiveness for the benefit of this generation and the generations to come. The book is a useful and rare source of material for academic institutions, chief executives, diplomats, lawmakers and other officials in both public and private organizations as well as for teachers, researchers and students. Readers can look forward to the next volume scheduled to come out soon.
