It all started with a prompt at a three-day writing intensive: if you were a superhero, what would your powers be? D.D. Marx was asked to dig deeply to describe her special abilities in this exercise. Immediately, the answer came to her: she would be able to visit with her best friend one last time. This catalyst began Marx's process of writing Beyond Believing, an inspiring, funny, and romantic novel rooted in Marx's own life. The book, which has since been completed, will launch in February 2015 through Next Century Publishing.

When D.D. Marx's best friend Dan tragically passed away in a car accident in 1993, she felt as though the void in her heart would never be filled. Eventually, she was able to move on, all the while feeling as though Dan was guiding her. This otherworldly situation became the inspiration for Beyond Believing; Marx let herself dive into a world in which her best friend never really left. Her actual experiences became the outline for the book; there, Dan leads Olivia, the novel's protagonist, to finding a love that finally heals her.

Marx truly feels that Dan has remained by her side, and that he continues to touch her life. She had made it her mission to honor him so that he may never be forgotten through this story of the everyday challenges and tragedies in life, and the wisdom in believing that everything happens for a reason.

Beyond Believing is the first book in Marx's Beyond trilogy, and will be followed by Beyond Love and Beyond Forever. These books continue Olivia's story, full of signs, guidance, and wonderful surprises from her beloved friend Dan. All three books demonstrate the importance of being open to unlikely possibilities, and that hope and love can guide one out of the darkest of times.
