Author Cesar Fabiani believes that if one would want to help patients who suffer from addiction as a legitimate medical disorder, one must face misperceptions against it and resolves them by continually updating one's medical knowledge of the disease process and by treating addicted patients with respect and humane consideration. This belief prompted him to write "Addiction the Enigma of Stigma?" (published by Xlibris).

This book provides current medical treatment for addiction and resolves the stigma that exists against it. It also provides a review of the current clinical and evidence-based information regarding FDA-approved medications for the treatment of addiction as a medical disorder. In this book, Fabiani describes the most important clinical classification achievements and gives examples of celebrities who either succumbed to or successfully beat their addiction. Throughout these stories of real-life experiences, he shows readers what happened or could have happened without the stigma associated with addiction disorders.

"Individuals who suffer from addictions are often viewed as outcasts," Fabiani says. "People who do not understand addiction hold the nihilistic view that nothing can be done to effectively treat the disease and that any treatment efforts are a waste of time because the addicted person will just resume the behavior. Effective and updated medical education is the best antidote against the stigma about addiction."

Through the publication of "Addiction the Enigma of Sitgma," Fabiani hopes readers will change their stigma for scientific education and drop pejorative language towards persons with addictions. This volume is a drug addiction encyclopedia full of information useful to the clinicians, the patients and all others interested in the theme.
