Salt Lake City

Earl Downing was born to a poor working-class family during the Great Depression. At 13, his alcoholic father kicked him out and he was forced to sell moonshine and work the mills to survive. Downing's life took an abrupt turn when he joined the Marines.

"The U.S. Marines gave me the leadership skills I needed to achieve professional success and run my own company," Downing said. "The lessons I learned sparked my desire to succeed."

After recently being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Downing has decided to publish his memoir, "Boy From Lulu". In this new memoir, Downing narrates a unique coming-of-age journey that explores the many challenges he endured during uncertain times in America.

"The memoir highlights my unique and personal journey through life," Downing said. "I overcame odds that at the time seemed insurmountable and have accomplished more than I ever imagined."
