CHICO, Calif.

According to 2012 statistics from the World Health Organization, the number of individuals with dementia is estimated at 35.6 million worldwide. This disease can be difficult not only for the individual suffering from it, but also for the family and friends who want to provide the best care possible to their loved one. The new book "Caregiving for Beginners: What I Learned Caregiving for Frank and his Dementia" (published by WestBow Press) provides a resource for nascent caregivers from an author writing under the pen name Frank's Wife, about her own experiences helping her husband.

When the author's husband was diagnosed with dementia, she was devastated, but she learned all she could to help her husband through this difficult time. She took notes on how she cared for Frank and what she learned along the way. These notes were the genesis of her book.

"The book is uplifting and hopeful - meant to bolster others for the journey ahead of them," Frank's Wife says.

The author lists advice for new caregivers including traveling with a loved one, proper hygiene, medication, and many other topics.

"I want readers to take away hope," the author says, "hope for a cure and for a way to live and love and be proud of their choices dealing with this disease."
