Author A.K. Announces Publication of FACE OFF: JULY 13
Based on real events from the author's own life, "Face Off" tells the story of Ahmed, a mathematics and Arabic teacher from Somalia, and how he struggled to make a better life for himself and his family. After marrying Sara, he left his new wife and young family to find work in Saudi Arabia, where job prospects were much better.
Four years later, Ahmed returned home to meet the AK, the son he'd never met - Sara had been pregnant with AK, the couple's third child, when Ahmed left for Saudi Arabia. Unable to get a visa to return back to work in Saudi Arabia, "Face Off" goes on to recount how Ahmed devoted himself to supporting Sara and his children, first in war-torn Somalia, all the way to the United States.
Author A.K took inspiration from his relationship with his own father while writing "Face Off," describing his dad as someone "who taught me to be an upright human being with the greatest moral values as diamonds never lose their brightness." He goes on to say:
"We have been through so much together and the world gave up on me, but you kept me close to you to find myself in a world that I could have been lost eternally dead or alive. Thank you and thanks to the one who chose you as a father to me. You showed me the world in color and not so much as others wanted me to see the world as black and white. It never crossed my mind that one day you and I would separate from one another as we were inseparable. I thought I never had a teacher, but you were the only teacher that I can now claim as one of my own. You gave me a light that I can walk with even in times of darkness. I never realized such things until you and I shook hands for the last time."
A.K is originally from Somalia and was raised in Kenya as a teenager before relocating to the United States. This is his first book, and for every copy sold, a donation will be made to the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle and Evergreen Hospice Services.
