After watching countless talented students fail to find a home for their deserving fiction in corporate publishing, novelist and creative writing professor Kaylie Jones was moved to create a venue for them. The result is New York-based Kaylie Jones Books, a cooperative of dedicated emerging and established writers who play an integral part in the publishing process, from evaluating manuscripts to editing, marketing, and publicity assistance.

From Kaylie Jones Books:

"It is our hope to publish books that bravely address serious issues-historical or contemporary-relevant to society today. Just because a book addresses serious topics and may include tragic events does not mean that the narrative cannot be amusing, fast-paced, plot-driven, and lyrical all at once. Our flagship publication-Unmentionables (Jan. 2014) by Laurie Loewenstein-takes place on the 1917 Chautauqua circuit, in rural Illinois, on the verge of US involvement in WWI. While the larger topics are race and women's suffrage, the characters and their courageous stands against oppression and reactionary bigotry could not be more relevant today."

Unmentionables is already off to a promising start-in addition to great reviewsUnmentionables has been selected by the Midwest Independent Booksellers Association as a Midwest Connections pick for January, and the American Library Association has selected Laurie Loewenstein to read at their Midwinter Conference in Philadelphia as part of a special spotlight on debut novelists.

Kaylie Jones is the author of Lies My Mother Never Told Me, A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries, Speak Now, and others. She helped found the MFA program at Long Island University's Southampton campus (where she still teaches) and is also is a professor of creative writing at Wilkes University.

Forthcoming titles in the imprint include Sing in the Morning, Cry at Night by Barbara J. Taylor, Starve the Vulture: One Man's Mythology by Jason Carney, andThe Love Book by Nina Solomon.
