In his recently released memoir, Blair Patrick Schuyler recounts what it took to maintain hope, fulfill his dreams, and regain his life in the midst of a threatening medical disorder. "Adolescence Interrupted" (published by Xlibris) captures the vicissitudes of growing up walking on a wire and what's at stake when staring into the face of the unthinkable.

Schuyler was only 13 years old when his happy, healthy world was irrevocably shattered. Diagnosed with a vulnerable neurological condition, he was thrust on a path that required courage, resilience and an unwavering fighting spirit. The affliction limited his options and mobility, making it difficult for him to find any sense of safety or semblance of personal peace.

Finally, after a series of physically and psychologically painful surgical procedures, he decided to take a stand. In this powerful and candid memoir, Schuyler shares how, with a steadfast support system and irrepressible personal resolve, he was able to break free from the unrelenting cycle of hopelessness and helplessness that had trapped him for so long. He reveals how he pursued his dreams and took control of his life despite seemingly insurmountable odds.

"Even when the path we walk seems like a series of pitfalls, roadblocks, and dead ends, there is always a distant light at the end of the tunnel," Schuyler says, "The only way to escape is to follow that flicker."

"Adolescence Interrupted" is a true story of victory in the stranglehold of adversity and a striking reminder of how surprisingly bright the future can be in the grip of such seemingly endless darkness. With a narrative prose that reads with the rhythm of poetry, the story serves as a motivational road map for anyone confronting the overwhelming reality of a daily existence without stability or safety nets.
