The Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) today became the first Australian performing arts centre to share content on the Google Cultural Institute. QPAC and Queensland Museum are the only two Queensland cultural organisations to be selected for the Australian launch of the Institute among fourteen others nationwide. Launched today, the platform will now allow people around the world to explore parts of Brisbane's vibrant culture online.

QPAC's contribution includes a brief background and history of the centre that celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year. Visitors to QPAC on the Google Cultural Institute can view galleries of images from QPAC's signature events; Out of the Box, Clancestry, and the QPAC International Series. The resolution of the images, combined with a custom built zoom viewer allows art and culture lovers to discover minute aspects of art forms that they may never have seen up close before.

QPAC Director - Marketing, Roxanne Hopkins said the Google Cultural Institute offered a new way for audiences to experience QPAC beyond the four walls of our theatres.

"Our digital marketing team is continually striving to deliver new ways to interact with audiences and encourage learning through the arts via online platforms; making what we do every day in our theatres more accessible," said Ms Hopkins.

Visitors to the Google Cultural Institute can browse works by cultural organisation, artist's name, artwork, type of art, country, collections and the time period.

The ' My Gallery ' feature allows users to save specific views of any of artworks and build their own personalised gallery. Comments can be added to each image and the whole gallery can then be shared with friends and family. It's an ideal tool for students or groups to work on collaborative projects or collections. In addition, a feature called 'Compare' allows you to examine two pieces of art sidebyside to look at how an artist's style evolved over time, connect trends across cultures or delve deeply into two parts of the same work.

The Google Cultural Institute which is dedicated to creating technology that helps the cultural community to bring their art, archives, heritage sites and other material online. The aim is to increase the range and volume of material from the cultural world that is available for people to explore online and in doing so, democratise access to it and preserve it for future generations
