ACPA to Return to QPAC with SPIRIT OF THE LORE World Premiere, Sept 11-19

Inspired by the themes of Lord of the Flies comes, Spirit of the Lore, a not to be missed brand new work presented by the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts (ACPA). This brand new, dramatic production makes its world premiere in the Cremorne Theatre, QPAC from 11 to 19 September 2013.

Spirit of the Lore is a vibrant mix of Indigenous theatre, music and dance. A creative collaboration between the students and staff of ACPA and the inspired design of Jacqueline Schofield, Spirit of the Lore examines the challenges and responsibilities faced by contemporary youth, left to their own devices without the guidance of Elders.

Designer of both theatre and film works, Jacqueline Schofield, has an outstanding passion for new collaborative work and has been invited by ACPA to bring her unique skills in production design to this show.

"I really enjoy collaborating with ACPA; I first worked with the company in 2012 so I am thrilled they have invited me back this year to work on Sprit of the Lore.

"This brand new work focuses in on a group of 12 men and women who find themselves in a foreign space; a place that promotes the intersection of conflicting world views, personal values and learnt rules of behaviour. EssentiallySpirit of the Lore is about twelve very different individuals sharing one common goal; survival", said Ms Schofield.

Jacqui's design career includes The Dissolving Self (2013) a devised theatre and movement based work at Carriageworks, Sydney and directed by Chris Drummond (Brink Productions), Angela Carter's The Company of Wolves (2012) directed by Phillip Rouse at The Parade Studio NIDA, and is currently working with director Julian Meyrick and playwright Jane Bodie, developing Jane's new work Hinterland.

ACPA has been delivering training for emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performing artists since it was initially established in 1998 by the Queensland State Government and its original founder, Michael Leslie.

The centre has since grown to become Australia's national centre of excellence in training for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists across the disciplines of music, acting and dance.

In 2011, under the artistic direction of Leah Purcell, ACPA presented the sold out season of Jane Harrison'sStolen, in collaboration with Link-Up QLD, leading to ACPA and Link-Up receiving the 2012 Queensland Premier'sReconciliation Award.
