The Lyric Stage Company of Boston's Producing Artistic Director, Spiro Veloudos, and its Board of Directors today announced that they have named Matt Chapuran as the 40-year-old theater company's new managing director. He will assume his full-time duties at The Lyric Stage on October 20, 2014.

Spiro Veloudos says, "Matt will be a welcome addition to the team here at The Lyric Stage. His background as a performer and director will complement his managerial style, and will fit right in with our current staff. Matt and I worked together on several occasions negotiating the New England Area Theatre contract with Actors Equity Association and was my vice president at The Producers Association of New England Area Theatres. I look forward to working with him here as The Lyric Stage moves forward.

Matt Chapuran comes to The Lyric Stage from the Huntington Theatre Company, where he managed institutional giving. During his five-year tenure at Stoneham Theatre, most recently as its Managing Director, the company grew its performing arts audience to the fifth largest in Greater Boston, as reported by the Boston Business Journal." He was the Managing Director of The Nora Theatre Company during the early stages of the capital campaign that led to the construction of the Central Square Theatre. A graduate of Boston College and Emerson College, Matt has performed with ImprovBoston, where he is currently directing the musical comedy The Gruesome Tale of Penny Dreadful. He continues to teach improv as a part of Babson College's M.B.A. program and is one half of the improv team The Angriest Show in the World. His lives in Jamaica Plain with his wife, Michelle LeBlanc, and their three daughters. Matt says of his new position, "Much of Boston's theatrical renaissance can be tied directly to Spiro Veloudos's arrival at The Lyric Stage and its subsequent commitment to local artists. It's a beloved space where I first interned in 1994. I'm honored to have this unique opportunity to contribute to its mission."
