Got my tickets for The Wiz- orch G 10-12... how does that sound?? I've sat in the grand tier before, but it's so much wider than the orch there and feels really far away. Not a total fan.

anything other than the rear mezz at City Center is good seating, in my opinion. although my favorite seats happen to be the seats in the front row of the rear gallery. lots of leg room.

agree about the leg room. and it's usually really cheap up there. i would say your pretty safe with those seats. dainty

Unfortunately front row rear gallery isn't available... at least not yet. Currently the entire rear gallery is marked as unavailable for sale through the website.

Does this apply to even the front row center of the rear mezz?

The only other tix I can find at the same price are:

- Faaaaaaaaaaaar front left orchestra (4-5 rows from the stage) which sure looks like it will mean at best a limited perspective and at worst loss of left stage view.

Or

- Far left Front Gallery albeit front row

So in your experience, are you saying even the extreme far left seating in the front orch, and the far left of the front gallery are worse seating than the very first row center of the rear mezz?

Thanks very much for your insight. This will be our first show at City Center, so your advice is invaluable! :)

Actually one other option I forgot at that price... far left seating, 2nd row of the front mezz behind the grand tier.

The very first row of the rear mezzanine is still the tenth or twelfth row of the mezzanine. Your seats aren't raked high enough to see the front of the stage over the edge of the mezzanine and the overhang of the gallery blocks your view of the top of the stage.

I've never been in the orchestra at City Center, but I'd go with front row of the gallery. Even if it's all the way on the side, you get a great view from up there, and no one's blocking your view.

I've only sat in the rear mezz once at City Center and I felt like I was sitting in a cave. I agree with Yero and would go with the first row of the gallery.

except last year when I bought first row balcony (for On the town), we arrived only to move everyone in the gallery to rear mezz.

AND they did it by just random assignment based on when you decided to go in the theatre and I ended up with some pretty crap seats. I was so pissed off. (Luckily the show was amazing that I mostly got over it).

There is a Orchestra 1 E17 seat that is showing up on the City Center ticket site. Where is this seat? The seating chart is very bad and for $15 this seems too goo to be true.

That's a side orchestra seat. Apparently they are selling the extreme sides for $25. That sounds about where my seat is, but on the opposite side of the theater and a couple rows up.

You can always check the seating chart on Broadway box. That's what I did. Just type in New York City Center and it should be listed under the venues thing.

Okay, saw The Wiz on Monday the 16th and here's my personal experience with seating in the Front Gallery...

Wouldn't do it again.

Sat first row on the aisle closest to the center of the Front Gallery. In many smaller theaters I have very much enjoyed balcony seating, but City Center is HUGE and we were literally looking at the tops of the performer's heads for the entire show.

Top of the stage is obscured, which for this show isn't too bad as it's where the orchestra is situated, but would have liked seeing them play too.

Still enjoyed the show, but would have much preferred the far right or left orchestra seats, or far right and left front mezz which were available for the same price.

If you don't mind the height and go for the Front Gallery anyway, definitely choose 2nd or 3rd row over first as the railing cuts a wide swath through the front third of the stage so you have to spend the entire show leaning forward to see over it.

Niggles aside, it was still a great seat for the mere $15 we paid, but not as good as a few other options at the same price.

I know this thread is old. But I want to get a ticket for Lady, Be Good since Tommy Tune is in it. Is the mezz okay? I've only sat in front center orchestra at City Center and that was for Band Wagon. Or is a rear far side orchestra seat better?

I'd go with the side mezzanine for $60 vs. $115 rear orchestra. Ideally I always try to get grand tier but those seats are usually gone. You may luck out if you're only looking for a single.

Front balcony is a good seat. Never sat in the rear orch though.

I would definitely take rear orchestra. The top Balcony tier at City Center is REALLY high. Watching the tops of heads on stage high.

^^Nothing is called "Gallery" at City Center, not sure what you're talking about. It's Orch, Mezz/Grand Tier, and Balcony.

Do note the many posts above that refer to the gallery and see here:

In any case, my response has been updated to reflect the "Balcony" name now.

Whatever the name, the highest tier of seating at City Center is extremely high up. Higher and farther than any Broadway theater and a more extreme angle than the Met.

To be fair, neon, it looks like according to posts earlier in the thread that there was, in fact, a different name for seating sections here a few years back. Apparently there was a renovation, too, that I did not know about.

Anyway… thanks! Got my tickets.

Going to see Zorba!  How is the view from mezzanine Row B?  Anyone sit in this area before?  I've never been to city center.  Hopefully mezzanine isn't too high.

I was in the Mezz for Paint Your Wagon and it was great, not too high at all. Balcony would be pretty high, but Mezz was fine.

I saw Paint Your Wagon from Mezz Row A and the view was great.  I would recommend it!
