I'm seeing it in 2 weeks. A matinee performance that starts at noon. I haven't been this excited since COAST OF UTOPIA.

I've never had to good fortune to see Mourning and would love to, but something tells me this production isn't going to be a "traditional" mounting of the play.

Four and a half hours actually.

I'm going on the 20th.

It's Scott Elliot, so it's either going to be a slow-as-molasses conversation piece or an over-the-top flamboyantly gay spectacle.

Prove me wrong.

Watch it end up being both.

Hm. I'm intrigued. But 4-and-a-half hours? Jeez. Is the play that engaging?

Well, if you like O'Neill, it's one of his better ones.

Assuming it's done in its entirety, the first two parts are very engaging -- it's the third part where the longeurs set it. Christine, the Clytemnestra figure, dies at the end of part two and some people have opined that the play dies when Christine does.

I kind of want to see it just to prove to myself that I can sit through the four and a half hours. Not sure exactly how I got that desire.

No matter how good (or bad) it is, a lot of people will probably be deterred by the running time, and I assume free tickets will start popping up. I think I'll hope for that and wait until then.

Word to the wise: STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOW

Just got out. Five hours long and I was bored every second of it. The performances are laughable, the direction is some of the worst I have EVER encountered, and it feels like a bad community theatre production.

Bad, bad, bad.

Hopefully it'll tighten up... because five hours?!?! What is this a Wagner opera?

Wagner, O'Neill, it's all the same.

Maybe if they take out the canyon-wide pauses that they call "reaction time" and make the scene changes faster, it could possibly run four and a half.

Was Lili Taylor not good?? She's usually amazing.

Flamboyantly gay spectacle......so it's the same Scott Elliot who ruined the revival of Threepenny Opera I take it?

I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

No. Lili Taylor couldn't even save it. She had her great moments, but she wasn't strong enough to help the play any.

That sucks. I figured for $16 it'd be worth a trip, but I guess not.

Well, I, at least , thank you for saving 4+ hours of my life and time in New York next month. And extend by condolences for your extended period of boredom.:)

Yes. It sucks. Jena Malone outshone Lili Taylor but her part was much more interesting. I had front row seats and had to keep my hand over my mouth so the actors wouldn't hear my laughter.
