This Playbill article talks about the new musical "Kristina" by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson that may be heading to NYC after a lawsuit win. Then the last line says:
"The Broadway Theatre, currently hosting The Color Purple, is considered to be a possible venue for the musical."
I thought CP was doing well and in for a long run... Is it due to move?
Just seems kinda morbid. Waiting for a show to eventually die... Kinda like saying, "I love grandma's house. Can't wait til it's ours." Updated On: 3/26/07 at 09:51 PM
I don't know anything about this musical. Are there any songs that appear in Mamma Mia in this musical? Or did ABBA specifically write songs for the musical?

No--it's all new music (well over ten years old now) and was a huge Swedish hit--and frankly I think it's quite gorgeous as much as I'm not usually into the Eruopean megamusical.
It's overall much more "classical" sounding than Chess--but think of that direction. This is NOT the thread for such snarkiness but frankly I'd be much more excited to see it than CP There have been some rights issues that have postponed the English language premiere--because of the story's ties to the US though they want to open it in Broadway (while I think opening in London would suit the show better... oh well)
Chita Rivera stunk at playing herself, in my honest opinion.
By the way, playing yourself is not really the easiest thing in the world. Granted, I joke about it, but I must credit her there: it is definately a challenge.

Not to threadjack, but ABSteel you need to visit the "precious little city" even if you don't see Fantasia in "The Color Purple." There is nothing like seeing a show on Broadway!
"Millie: If she can't play herself, how can she play someone else?
(I think she's an awful singer, too.) "
How many times are you folks going to ask that question? You sound like broken records. You don't think she can sing? Don't buy her albums. You don't think she can act? Don't tune in to her tv movie or go see her star on broadway. If you do none of that then we don't have to hear all the complaining. You're probably just jealous because you can't act or sing and never will be an extra on broadway let alone a lead bringing in 2 million dollars before you even step on the stage.
I think people are going to be surprised at Kristina. The music is absolutely breathtaking. The thing I am super curious about is the running time. Didn't the original run almost 4 hours!? The cd is definitely one of my fav's and I think everyone should check it out.
I had no idea Alice Ripley sang that song!? I imagine it is the '11'oclock' number Du Maste Finnas? That song is insane!
So I just downloaded Alice Ripley singing "You Have to Be There." It is SOOO odd to hear the song without it's original GORGEOUS accompanyment. I think lyrically it needs a bit of work at the beginning. It's a bit too melodramatic in it's translation. Some of it works very well, but some is just a little too 'wow this was obviously translated.'
